Muscimol (Agarin; Agarine) hydrochloride is an isoxazole with psychoactive activity. Muscimol hydrochloride is also a selective agonist of the inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA ionotropic receptors. Muscimol hydrochloride can be isolated from from Amanita muscaria and related mushrooms. All in all, Muscimol is a potent GABAA receptors agonist (EC50=0.2 μM), a partial GABACreceptors agonist, and an inactive GABAB receptors agonist. Muscimol hydrochloride has calming, anti-anxiety and hallucinatory effects.
体内研究：
Muscimol 影响前额叶皮层的功能，并且在注射到腹侧前额叶皮层后（1μL，5μg/μL；前额叶皮层输注），损害猴子在计数任务中的表现，但在注射到背侧前额叶皮层后没有影响。Muscimol 影响前扣带皮层 (ACC) 的微量调节，并且在 10 秒微量组中（62.5 或 125 μg/侧）对抑制噪声刺激没有影响。Animal Model:Female rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) (5 kg and 5.5 kg)

Administration:Implanted drug delivery tubes and infusion; single dose
Result:Increased the error types and reaction time during the counting task.
